New Job=New Life

Another new adventure is underway.

Last month Ted went up to North Dakota to start driving a truck. He has been hauling water to oil fracking pumps day and night. He has endured so many new trials it is impossible to list them all. Just to name a few off the top of my head: He lived out of his car/truck for a full two weeks. Got stranded in a blizzard and had to live off food and water he had in the semi with him, heating his food with the heater, and melting snow for extra water. Chained up the truck almost a dozen times to get unstuck on the snowy roads. Got stuck on a hill, and started sliding backward down the hill because of ice. Jack-knifed while trying to turn around and stopped traffic for twenty minutes on a two lane highway. Drove all night (12 hours) through a blizzard trying to get to a site that should've only take 5 hours, because he had to drive 25 mph so he wouldn't slide off the icy roads. Witnessed a deadly wreck that claimed 3 high school student's lives. Worked for 3 days with little/no rest. Getting sworn at more times in one hour than he had in his whole life. Pulled out 2 trucks that had rolled off ravines/cliffs. And many more, but can't think of them all right now.
In the mean time, Ted has been looking for jobs that fit his education and training a little more. Thankfully, we found a safety trainer position up there. Ted applied, and out of over 200 applicants and 50 interviewees, Ted got hired on to teach safety to new hires for a company called, Missouri Basin Inc. (MBI). It is a family owned, large company with over 1900 employees. They are hoping to double the work force within the next two years, so Ted has his work cut out for him. Unlike driving, it has consistent hours. He works 7-5 M-F, and some weekends. Yea!
Now, the debate comes in about housing and if I should move up there with him right away or stay for a little longer in Idaho to make sure he likes the job and the company likes him. In 6 months, he will have a review, and I am debating if I should wait to move up until then. 6 months to a year can change a lot of things. But, since his job is full time, we won't see him hardly at all. Maybe once a month. I don't know if I want to do that either. So, we are trying to figure out if I should move up or stay. Housing up there is ridiculous. Apartments rent for 2500 to 3000 dollars a month. Campsites rent for 600 to 750 dollars a month. I don't really want to live in a trailer, so the apartment is better, but paying that kind of rent will be over half our income, which doesn't make it realistic. On the other hand, Ted can live in the camp trailer and we can save up some more money. Right now, I am way glad I live next door to my mom. She checks on me lots and makes sure I'm okay. It would be so much harder to be away from family and going through this. I'm living the life of a single mother, which is much harder than I ever imagined. Having no break is exhausting. All you mothers out there who have your husbands home every night should be so thankful! I had no idea how good I had it until Ted left.
So, the debate. Should I stay? See how it goes for 6-9 month? Or should I go? Move up there and hope everything works out in the long run?
Any opinions? Suggestions?
