Howdy from the farm! Or city! So, my family and I have been traveling like crazy these last couple weeks, and we have been in meeting after meeting. This last week, we have been meeting with VIP's for the sale of some property we own where we lived before we moved. It is so crazy because there is so much drama behind the whole situation. So, I will let you in on the whole thing...
So, my grandma (who is the only grandparent I have still living), is living in the same house she has been in since her and my grandpa got married back in the day (lots of sentimental value). They brought all their kids home to this house, they ran their business from this house, all her memories and happiness comes from where she is living in this home. Well, since her house is on a main boulevard, her property is worth lots of money, especially since it has such great commercial potential.
Well, here is the behind the scenes part: My two uncles are greedy and completely disrespectful to any and everyone who is not helping them to be richer. So, they have developed most of the land my grandma owned, and they were supposed to pay her as they sold the lots and built the homes and got money for them. Well, since neither one of them knew how to develop, they lost money. All of their money (supposedly). They are almost losing their homes, (they say), but for some odd reason they have enough money to travel all over the world, build new homes for themselves, buy new and expensive cars, and play golf all the time. My mom says they have champagne taste with a beer budget, and I must agree. So, since they go and blow all their money on stupid worldly things, they go to my grandma and plead for help and she gives them money...continually. Now, this has not just started happening, but all of their lives they have come to my grandma for help, and their kids have come to my grandma for help, and she has helped them. Now, she has nothing left, and nothing more to give them, except her house, and a few acres she has left around it. Right now, my grandma is living on her social security and is barely making it by. Another thing, my grandma had a stroke a few years back and is confined to a wheel chair, so she needs constant care. Luckily, my aunt is the sweetest and most caring woman on the face of the earth, and stays with my grandma all day everyday making sure she is okay.
Well, my uncles have now come to my grandma pleading for help and the only thing she can give them is her house and land it sits on. This will leave her homeless, and with nothing (completely). They have also told her that she needs to get my mom to sell her land to the developer, so that my grandma doesn't have to sell her home for the development. My grandma does not want to give up her home (rightfully), and so she is asking my mom, who has a couple acres just south of where she lives to please sell to the realitor and developer who is trying to develop the property so that she doesn't have to sell hers. My mom, knowing the situation, decided to go ahead and meet with the developer and realitor. So, we met. My brother and I went with my mom to meet with these men, and the first thing they said was that my grandma was ready to sell, and we were the hold up on the development (they were informed of this by one of my uncles). Luckily, my mom had talked to my grandma the morning before and found out she was not ready or willing to sell, so my mom put them in their place. And after about three hours of discussing the development, prices, and morals, we got our point across: that the real reason why and how we will sell our property is, if my grandma gets the money she is owed from my uncles on the sale of the rest of the land they are selling into this development. Really, the only thing these people who are developing the land care about is themselves and their money. I have never met people who have no feelings for those around them, not even the ones they are related to. Wow! Oh, and this development cannot and will not go through without our land and my grandma's.
We feel that it would be better to move my grandma out of her house than to build large box store all around her home, which would probably make her have another stroke. We are the only ones that actually care about what happens to my grandma, along with my aunt. Plus, it is not like this is an easy sell for us either. Our home my dad built for our family and we grew up in is going to be torn down, along with one of my best friend's home. So, basically they are tearing down and wrecking all of our childhood memories, and the main thing that my dad gave to us to keep us safe because he loved us so much.
Well, it has been almost a week since we met with them, and they said they would call us right back to try and work out a deal. But, nothing. So, we are hoping that they have backed out of the sale. Which will make us extremely happy. We just hope my uncles do not try to get someone else to buy the land and develop it so that it will just wrap around my grandma's house and squeeze her in.
Anyway, this is something that we have been dealing with for a long time, and quite frankly, we hope that it will just work out so that my grandma stops getting all this pressure and gets to actually stay in her home until she passes away. We are so glad that we moved out of there too, because we cannot even imagine what it would be like being in the middle of all of this just after my dad has passed away. I will keep you updated on the outcome!...Even though this may take years or never happen.
